Be like water

I was planning on doing Part 2 today to the Introduction to FightPaper, but well, things change, and in startups, just as life in general, you have to be flexible:

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

- Bruce Lee

My front-end developer just bailed on me in the middle of the project.

Yesterday afternoon, I received an email from the leader of the team who was working on the front-end development of the initial phase of "Version 1" of FightPaper:

"Sorry but I'm unable to handle this project for now... Running out of resources and too many things on my plate."

Moving forward.

It is what it is. They offered the code they had completed thus far without charge as an apology. I accepted the apology and left it positively with them.

I can confidently say that years of running businesses has better prepared me to handle challenging situations than any job ever did. I've already reached out to two other front-end teams that I work with and will select one of them to pick up the pieces and move forward.

I love the Bruce Lee quote, which is a popular one in Jiu-Jitsu. I must be shapeless and adjust to the challenges as they come my way.
